6:47 PM, Finally: Vestavia Hills coaching legend Buddy Anderson starts his 43rd and final season tonight against Hoover. The Rebels had to forfeit their first two games because of COVID-19 issues. Anderson and his wife were two of the positive tests. But he is back tonight.
4:03 PM, Special night at Spanish Fort: The Toros are hosting Park Crossing tonight in a “game of no record.” Both teams recorded forfeit wins this week already. However, it’s been a tragic week for Park Crossing. Thunderbird QB Keondre Hope, scheduled to start tonight’s game, died after an ATV accident last weekend. In his memory, Spanish Fort painted his initials on the field at Toro Stadium and also will take donations for his family tonight. The Toro Foundation will match whatever the fans give.
3:00 PM, No go for Brindlee Mountain: Brindlee Mountain coach Keith Garner confirmed to AL.com today that his team was quarantined until Sept. 10 and would forfeit tonight’s game at Sylvania. The Lions also will likely have to forfeit next Friday’s home game vs. Sylvania.
