The Minnesota Department of National Resources will be closing state campgrounds in accordance with Gov. Tim Walz’s two-week stay-at-home order, which goes into place on Friday night.

Along with campgrounds, the DNR will also be closing lodging and rental facilities until May 1 as the state works to slow the spread of the coronavirus. For those who had reservations, the DNR is waiving cancellation fees and changes can be made free of charge.

While Minnesotans are still allowed to engage in outdoor activities such as walking, running, fishing and hunting, they are expected to practice social distancing while doing so.

The DNR had already closed state park and recreation area visitor centers as well as other non-essential buildings. However, parks — and some bathrooms — will still remain open and visitors can purchase permits online or at self-pay stations at the park.
