Anna Delvey, the woman who impersonated a German heiress and scammed New York’s banks and social circles, is already starting the brand-building after early release.
Delvey (real name Anna Sorokin) was released from prison last week, three years into a four-year sentence. She immediately logged on to Twitter and Instagram, posted a letter to Harvey Weinstein on blog Anna Delvey Diaries, and is documenting her life for “Anna Delvey TV.”
In an interview with Insider, she said she’s also writing a novel about her “take on the criminal justice system and my jail experience.” She describes a “typical day” in jail: “It’s about who you know. It’s kind of like the scene in New York, but amplified. Because if you know the right officers, they’re going to get you the right job.”
Shonda Rhimes laid claim to a series about Delvey in 2018, but in 2019 she was reportedly blocked from profiting off it while in prison. Bridgerton is Rhimes’ first big Netflix hit, but Inventing Anna, which stars Julia Garner as Delvey, might follow this year. Lena Dunham is also reportedly producing a Delvey project for HBO.
As Insider reported last month, Netflix paid $320,000 for the rights to her story, and Delvey allegedly used a good chunk of it to pay back banks and acquaintances.
More recently, Delvey livestreamed herself eating caviar in a bathtub.
