Massachusetts man had package containing the drug ‘Molly’ shipped from Slovenia to relative’s home, authorities say

Authorities intercepted a package sent to Massachusetts from Slovenia carrying the drug commonly known as “Molly”, the Worcester District Attorney’s office said.

The man police say picked up that package is now facing drug charges.

Christopher J. Barker, 28, of 37 Valley St., first floor, Fitchburg, was arrested Monday after he picked up the package.

Authorities said inside the package were a “tan rock like substance that weighed 506 grams and many blue pills that weighed 135 grams.” The contents tested positive for MDMA.

Barker was arraigned in East Brookfield District Court Tuesday on a charge of possession of a Class B drug with intent to distribute. He was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 11.

The narcotics squad of the Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.’s office was notified by the Homeland Security Investigations that there was a suspicious package from Slovenia bound for Barre, Massachusetts, authorities said.

The package was discovered at JFK International Airport’s mail facility after a K-9 for Customs Border and Protection signaled that there may be drugs inside.

State police detectives worked with a U.S. Postal inspector and had the package delivered to Barre, Massachusetts.

The package was shipped to one of Barker’s relatives, the district attorney’s office said.

“Soon after the delivery was made the suspect arrived, took possession of the drugs and was arrested without incident by the state police with assistance from HSI and Barre Police,” the district attorney’s office said.
