Add two more schools to the list of football cancelations this week. And a third has decided to end the season.

Florence and Fultondale have both canceled games because of COVID-19 concerns, bringing the number cancelations this week to nine.

In addition to the two newest shutdowns this week, Pell City, Huntsville High, Lee-Huntsville, Hazel Green, Wetumpka, Jacksonville and Mortimer Jordan have also canceled games. In metro Birmingham, Midfield shuts down its season amid COVID-19 concerns.

Florence City schools released a statement today stating that the next two games will be canceled and the football team will be isolated until Oct. 5.

"We have been notified that we have three varsity football players that have been diagnosed as having Covid-19.

After consultation with the Alabama Department of Public Health on Friday morning, we are announcing the cancellation and forfeiture of tonight’s football game against Brentwood Academy and next week’s game against James Clemens High School."

Fultondale canceled its game with Springville because of COVID-19 concerns, but it’s unclear if the Wildcats will be able to play the following week against Dora.

Also on Friday, Dothan lost its game with Cairo, according to WTVY, when the Syrupmakers had to cancel because of COVID concerns. Dothan had to cancel it first two games against Hoover and Park Crossing due to COVID concerns of its own.
