A battle of two undefeated teams coming into Friday night proved to be all Minnewaska as the Lakers beat Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 33-12.
The Falcons (2-1) had scored 116 points through their first two games of the season in wins over Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa and Sauk Centre, but they could not match that offensive firepower against the Lakers (3-0). Minnewaska held ACGC to 229 yards.
The Falcons’ touchdowns came through the air as quarterback Luke Trebil found Josh Kinzler and Dawson Miller for short scores as part of Trebil’s 4-of-7 day passing.
The Lakers jumped out early with two first-quarter touchdowns. Darion Alexander had a 73-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to jumpstart Minnewaska, and Tyson Meyer added a touchdown run from two yards out later in the first quarter.
Lakers’ quarterback Grant Jensen had just two completions on five passes, but one of those went to Peyton Johnsrud for a 44-yard touchdown. Meyer added his second touchdown of the night from 4 yards out in the fourth quarter, and Jensen then put the finishing touches on the win with an interception return for a touchdown late in the game.

Meyer had another big game with the two touchdowns to go with 185 yards on 20 carries. Alexander was Minnewaska’s second-leading rusher with 39 yards on 11 carries.
The Lakers will try to keep their undefeated record in tact when 0-3 Montevideo comes to Glenwood on Sept. 20.
