Jamal Adams congratulates Steve McLendon on being traded by Jets

Jamal Adams was the first big-name player the Jets dealt in 2020 and now he’s reveling in seeing others get to move on from the now 0-6 team.

The Seahawks safety took to Twitter to essentially congratulate his former team captain Steve McLendon after the Jets traded the defensive tackle and a 2023 seventh-round pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for a 2022 sixth-round pick following the team’s sixth consecutive loss Sunday.

“I’M SO HAPPY FOR YOU BROTHA!” wrote Adams, who essentially forced his way out of New York in July. “LOOK AT GOD WORK! #99”

“OG TAUGHT ME HOW TO BE A PRO!” he added.

Adams also retweeted a tweet that noted McLendon was going to be reunited with former Jets coach Todd Bowles, now the Buccaneers defensive coordinator and wrote “LEGENDARY COMBO!” about the pair.

Jets coach Adam Gase said Monday that the organization wasn’t having a fire sale despite trading the 34-year-old McLendon, who had been with the team since 2016. Gase asserted that trading McLendon was “the right thing to do.”

Adams was vocal on social media throughout his tenure in New York, making his exit from the Jets incredibly public. In June, Adams requested to be traded despite Gase and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams saying they wanted to keep him. He also voiced his displeasure with how general manager Joe Douglas treated him during talks of a potential contract extension. The Jets eventually traded Adams and a 2022 fourth-round pick to the Seahawks in exchange for safety Bradley McDougald, a first-round and third-round pick in 2021, and a 2022 first-round pick.
