Second Quarter CPA Exam Testing Window Extended Due to Coronavirus-Related Test Center Closures

The Journal of Accountancy is reporting today that NASBA, the AICPA, and Prometric have made a joint decision to extend the second quarter CPA exam testing window due to COVID-19 Prometric closures.

As it stands, Prometric testing centers in the United States are closed through April 16, though NASBA has said that period could be longer. The second quarter testing window was scheduled to start April 1.

Writes JofA:

In anticipation of the reopening of test centers, NASBA, the AICPA, and Prometric have decided to invoke an emergency testing period. As part of this procedure, the 2020 second-quarter testing window will be extended from June 10 to June 30.

The decision was made with the understanding that candidates are concerned about their testing options amid the disruption caused by the pandemic.

This also changes target score release dates, which can be found from the AICPA here. It is unknown at this time how this could affect the planned launch of continuous testing, which up until recently was on track to start at the beginning of the third quarter. The third quarter start date of July 1 has not changed as yet.

In addition to the extended testing window, NASBA announced that Notices to Schedule expiring between April 1 and June 30 will be extended through Sept. 30, 2020 and Prometric has waived rescheduling fees for this period.

This is an ever-evolving situation but that’s where we’re at as of now. We will of course keep you updated if we hear anything new.
