Taylor Swift’s reps say private jet report is ‘incorrect’, plane loaned out to others

Last week, Taylor Swift was added to a list of celebrities with the worst private jet carbon emissions. But her reps are saying that the report is incorrect and that the jet is loaned out to other people.

According to the Los Angeles Times, a report by the Yard that went viral had marked Swift as the number one celebrity to use carbon dioxide emissions. The report claimed that since January, Swift had taken 170 flights on her personal plane, which is about 9.142 tons of carbon dioxide.

According to Entertainment Tonight, the study claimed that Swift racked up about 22,923 minutes in the air since January and the average flight time was about 80 minutes. The shortest trip recorded was 36 minutes from Missouri to Nashville.

In its report, The Yard claimed that Swift’s “carbon footprint” over the last few months was about 1,184 times higher than what the average person uses in a year, according to the LA Times.

Swift’s reps told the LA Times in a statement that her plane is loaned out.

“Taylor’s jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals,” said Swift’s reps in a statement to the LA Times. “To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.”

According to the Rolling Stone, the Yard put the viral report together and Kylie Jenner faced scrutiny for taking flights that were under 20 minutes.

The report was put together with data from Celebrity Jets, which grabbed information from ADS-B Exchange, said the Rolling Stone. According to the Today Show, the data from ADS-B Exchange is community sourced.

“Yard based its carbon emissions estimates on a U.K. Department for Transportation estimate that a plane traveling at about 850 km/hour gives off 134 kg of CO2 per hour; that 134 kg estimate was multiplied with both time-spent-in-air and a factor of 2.7 to account for “radiative forcing,” which includes other harmful emissions such as nitrous oxide (2.7 was taken from Mark Lynas’ book Carbon Counter). That number was then divided by 1000 to convert to tonnes,” according to the Rolling Stone.

Based on the report, after Swift on the list are Floyd Mayweather, Alex Rodriquez, Blake Shelton, Steven Spielberg, Kim Kardashian, Mark Wahlberg, Oprah, and Travis Scott in the top 10, according to the Rolling Stone.

According to the Today Show, the Yard has a disclaimer on its post that says it is “aware that this list is not conclusive to the biggest offenders.” The report also states that the point of the study is to highlight the damage and impact private jets have on the environment.
