The United Architects of the Philippines Qatar Chapter (UAP Qatar) virtually held its 11th founding anniversary and ‘3rd GMM CPD MENA’ webinar recently under the theme ‘Filipino Architecture Decoded: The Global Perspective’.
UAP Qatar chapter president Marvin M Tejada officially opened the ceremony by administering the call to order and ground rules for the event.
UAP Qatar Chapter vice president for programmes and development, Janel S Hipolito, delivered the welcoming remarks, while UAP Qatar chapter secretary Kathleen B Osio-Arevalo acknowledged the guests.
This was followed by a video anniversary message from the current and past presidents: Miluna Simpron-Alegada, (fiscal year 2019-2020); Virgo C Ibarra, (FY 2018-2019); Melito M Gomez, (2017-2018); Ricardo H Sesbreno, (2016-2017); Wilson D Bernardino, (2014-2016); Michael Nino G Garcia, (2013-2014); Jonathan M Vanta, (2012-2013) and Mario Herman M Macaranas, (2011-2012).
Anniversary messages were also given by UAP Qatar chapter co-founder/ adviser Pete T Frac and founder/adviser Isaias B Tabuzo Jr.
Additional anniversary greetings were delivered by guests PPOQ chairman engineer Adonis Q Talabo, UAP national executive vice president Richard M Garcia, Philippine labour attaché Adam A Musa, UAP district A4 director Markel Cesar A Luna, UAP national president Armando Eugene C De Guzman III, and UAP past national president Benjamin Panganiban Jr.
One of the highlights of the event was bestowing the ‘5- and 10-year Membership in Continuous Good Standing’ awards led by Hipolito and UAP Qatar chapter vice president for operations Jayson Z Santos. Tejada also announced the ‘UAP College of Fellows Nominations, Guidelines, and Procedures’ to guide prospective and interested members who are eligible to be UAP Fellow nominees.
The event was also highlighted by three sessions led by resource speakers Dr Lorelei D C de Viana, the executive director of the UAP Sentro ng Arkitekturang Filipino; Dr Gerard Rey A Lico, the deputy director of the UAP Sentro ng Arkitekturang Filipino; and Deo Alrashid T Alam, UAP, design principal of DADA.
De Viana discussed the topic ‘Arkitektura at Kasaysayan: Heritage and the Filipino Identity’. Lico spoke on ‘Old Building New Life: Conserving Philippine Architecture’, while Alam talked about ‘Indigenous Injection: Regenerating Traditional Architecture’
