Cinemark has joined the list of movie theater chains with suburban locations that is reopening.

The chains is opening locations in Deer Park, Joliet, Melrose Park, North Aurora, West Dundee and Woodridge on Jan. 29, according to a press release. Single tickets and private watch parties will be sold.

Several movie theaters in the Chicago suburbs reopened Jan. 22.

Marcus Theatres, a national movie theater chain with locations in Addison, Elgin, Gurnee, Country Club Hills and Orland Park, reopened Jan. 22. Marcus’ location in Chicago Heights remains closed.

Also Jan. 22, the nationwide cinema chain AMC Entertainment opened several movie theaters in Illinois Friday, including locations in Schaumburg and Crestwood, with dozens more to come Jan. 29. Studio Movie Grill has reopened its west suburban Wheaton location.

A Marcus news release said, “The company’s Private Cinema allows for a group of up to 20 friends to socialize safely in their own, personal auditorium. Guests can decide on a day, a movie from Marcus’ catalog, any snacks and more! Typically offered at $175, this deal is available for $99 now through the end of January at five Chicagoland locations, including Gurnee, Addison, Elgin, Orland Park and County Club Hills, which all reopened today, Jan. 22.”

Classic Cinemas, which runs a number of classic movie houses in the Chicago suburbs, including in Oak Park and Downers Grove, remains closed. That’s mostly due to the limited supply of new movies people want to see, chain CEO Chris Johnson said Friday. Disney and Sony just made changes to their schedules of upcoming releases. He may open his York theater on Feb. 26, but he also doesn’t want to call back many employees from unemployment and then reverse that decision.

“My take on it,” he said, “is you’ve got to have compelling new (movies) on a regular basis.”

Hollywood Blvd theater in Woodridge remains open Thursdays-Sunday.
