Kentucky Speedway will no longer be hosting the NASCAR Cup Seriesa little more than 20 years after its debut. The Athletic's Jordan Bianchi was first to report the news, which has since been confirmed by multiple sources.

Kentucky Speedway officials have not yet returned a request for comment.

The NASCAR Cup Series 2021 schedule is reportedly scheduled to be released Wednesday morning and Kentucky Speedway will join Chicagoland Speedway in losing its race next season, according to the report. Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports speculated Kentucky's race weekend will be moved to Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2021.

Atlanta and Kentucky are both properties owned by Speedway Motorsports, which also owns Bristol, Charlotte, Las Vegas, New Hampshire, Sonoma and Texas.

With Kentucky Speedway losing it’s race it’s unclear what the future will hold for the 1.5-mile track, which also hosted IndyCar racing in its earlier years and has gone through several modifications to the racing surface and the configuration of the track.

NASCAR Cup Series rookie Cole Custer won this year’s Quaker State 400 and will be the only Cup Series winner in Kentucky Speedway history to be neither a past champion or win the championship the same season he won at Kentucky. It was only the Cup Series 10th race at Kentucky. Past winners are Kyle Busch (2011/2015), Brad Keselowski (2012, 2014 and 2016), Matt Kenseth (2013), Martin Truex Jr. (2017-18), Kurt Busch (2019) and Custer.

Kentucky Speedway moved from two race weekends to one this year, with its fall races in the Xfinity and Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series moving to Las Vegas this past weekend.
