Grambling State volleyball coach cleans house after two months

.

Just two months into the job, Grambling State University’s head volleyball coach has made the decision to clean house.

Chelsey Lucas cut the team’s 19-player roster on April 4, informing students that their scholarships at the university would not be renewed because they didn’t live up to her performance standards, as reported by CBS.

“All the time, energy, [and] dedication I put into the volleyball program here at Grambling State has been thrown right back in my face,” tweeted Destiny Johnson, a sophomore at the university. “My entire team has been robbed of our last years to play the sport we love by a woman who has come in and disrespected and belittled us since day 1.”

The coach was first hired in February, following a season overshadowed by losses with an overall record of 11-17.

TIGER WOODS EXPECTS TO PLAY IN MASTERS

Grambling State Athletics Communications Director Brian Howard defended Lucas’s decision, arguing that there were over a dozen “quality” players who could soon join the team, leaving limited spots for returning players.

“It’s her decision to make, and she’s got some quality players coming on board. I think 13 or 14 are coming on board. So, I hate to say out with the old, but in with the new a little bit,” Howard said.
