Black Friday is upon us, and that means deals on all the hottest products. Surprisingly, that includes the new MacBook Air that dropped less than a month ago. It’s a great upgrade over older MacBook Airs. Get it for $899, a $100 discount that will soon vanish.

The new M1 processor is the best one yet in an Air thanks to its solid performance and tendency to stay cool. To top it off, users have been claiming they’re getting 15 (or more) hours of battery life from this bad boy. We’re still waiting for our review unit to arrive, but if the performance is anything like the M1 Mac Mini we’re currently testing (which is also on sale!), it’s a competitive value for its $999 price tag.

If you’re not sure about a first-generation MacBook, here’s what you’d probably miss out on by choosing another similarly priced laptop: an 18-hour battery life and a laptop that stays silent during intense tasks. You’ll still easily find laptops with 8 to 11 or more hours of battery life, though. You’d be hard pressed to find another truly silent laptop (since only the Air is bold enough to go fanless), but there are many other quiet laptops available that should be able to withstand the higher temperatures of intensive tasks.

For those open to the novel in-house processor inside a fanless chassis, the M1 processor provides plenty of performance for web browsing, photo editing and even some moderate video editing. It claims to have gaming capabilities that surpass those of AMD Ryzen’s or Intel Core’s integrated graphics cards, but you’re much likelier to run into compatibility issues until developers have time to switch over to the M1’s architecture.

While we can’t give a definitive verdict on the newest MacBook Air just yet, we are confident that this laptop will serve the needs of most people for many years to come. It’s fast, it’s as durable as the early 2020 MacBook Air and it has an insane amount of battery life. While it’s a good value for $1,000, this $899 Black Friday deal more than justifies the jump to an M1 processor if you’ve been dreaming about it for the past three weeks.
