DENVER — Appliance Factory has been forcibly closed after they received multiple citations that they were out of compliance with public health orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
9NEWS received emails from employees about the company continuing to operate, even after the governor's stay-at-home orders.
The city and state orders direct non-essential businesses to close or allow employees to work remotely.
Appliance Factory declared itself essential -- but, the city disagreed. Denver's health department cited them three times over the course of the last week.
On Thursday, Denver city workers arrived at the chain's Zuni Street location to chain the doors shut.
A spokesperson for Appliance Factory said in an e-mail that they currently have a pending appeal before the health department.
"We will counter in court and get to the bottom of why Gov. Polis does not want the people of Colorado to buy appliances in this crisis," the e-mail reads. "Every other state specifically allows appliances to be sold so people don't get sick at home or spread the virus further."
Appliance Factory also said they expect their other locations in Denver to be padlocked tomorrow.
The Colorado Attorney General's Office has sent four cease and desist letters to local businesses suspected of violating the state's stay-at-home order.
These include Hobby Lobby, Comfort Dental, a dentist office in Aurora and a RE/MAX real estate agent.
