Mississippi state representative candidate kills wife, self

A candidate for the Mississippi Legislature entered a medical clinic Tuesday morning and shot his wife before shooting himself, according to reports.

Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson said that a man entered Williams Medical Clinic in Potts Camp, Miss. and shot his wife before fatally shooting himself. The shooting happened around 10 a.m. 

The Marshall County Coroner James Anderson identified the victims as Carl Robinson and Latoya Thompson. Thompson died while waiting for a helicopter to transport her to a hospital, the Daily Journal reported. A .38 caliber handgun was recovered at the scene. There were no other reports of injuries.

Dickerson said divorce papers had been served Tuesday. 

Robinson, 43, was running for the District 5 seat in the Mississippi House of Representatives. Robinson is on the ballot for the August 6 Democratic primary election.
