Jay, Gilbert E. "Gil" age 90, of Ottumwa, Iowa, formerly of West St. Paul, Minnesota, died on July 17, 2019. He was born August 12, 1928 in Moulton, IA to Arthur and Myrtle Davis Jay. He married Garnet Nadine Swarts on October 14, 1946 and she preceded him in death on October 28, 1992. Gil had worked for John Morrell & Co. Moving to Minnesota in 1972, he managed Cedar Court Apts. In West St. Paul until moving back to Ottumwa in 2017. Gil was a platelet donor. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, flying, hunting, and in his youth playing stickball. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving are his children, Lowell (Donna) Jay of Wilbur, WA; Kathy Majcher of Seattle, WA; Madeline Ruby of Cedar Rapids, IA; Phyllis (Doug) Ashby of Blaine, WA; and Janice (David) Swallow of Ottumwa IA; daughter-in-law Lynne Jay of Ottumwa, IA; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Liz (Kenny) Batterson of Drakesville. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald "Jaybird" Jay; two sons-in-law, Richard Majcher and Daryl Ruby; a daughter-in-law, Diana Jay; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters. Private inurnment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, IA. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Iowa Chapter.
