AUSTIN, TX β€” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday said state resources and personnel stand at the ready if needed to assist following a pipeline explosion in the Port of Corpus Christi.

Fire crews were dispatched to the explosion near the Port of Corpus Christi and refinery row on Friday, according to emergency officials. At least one person sustained severe burns as a result of the blast, according to reports. The pipeline burst into flames after it was hit by a barge, Corpus Christi Police Department Deputy Chief Billy Breedlove told reporters during a news conference.

Fire Chief for the City of Corpus Christi, Robert Rocha, says RTFC and CCFD are on the scene near Lantana and Up River Road. The patient was transported to Bay Area Hospital by helicopter while several other victims were transported to hospitals by ambulance, according to 3 News. All told, reported the Corpus Christi Caller Times, six people were rushed to hospitals for medical treatment although their conditions are unknown.

"The State of Texas is working closely with local partners in Corpus Christi as well as the Coast Guard to assist with emergency response efforts following the explosion," Abbott said in a prepared statement. "Texas Division of Emergency Management and Texas Department of Public Safety personnel are already on the ground to provide support, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is monitoring air quality in the area."

The governor added that state resources are at the ready should they be needed to assist in the explosion's aftermath: "The state stands ready to provide any additional personnel and resources needed to address this event and keep Texans in the area safe," Abbott said. "We will continue to monitor the situation, and I ask all Texans to pray for the men and women responding to the explosion and for the safety of those in the area."
