Organisers of the Bahrain Superbike Championship (BSBK) yesterday announced Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) as an official sponsor of the championships’ second season.
Led by Chief Executive Officer Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, BIC is committed to supporting a range of motor sports, creating a year-long calendar of excitement within their premises.
Shaikh Salman noted that BIC was excited and proud to continue its affiliation and sponsorship of the BSBK Championship and to work with the team towards giving the series a permanent place in the circuit’s roster of events. This comes in light of the success of the championship’s inaugural season, and in recognition of the organisational quality of the racing series, which drew in participants from Middle East and Europe.
Shaikh Salman further confirmed the circuit’s support of such entrepreneurial sporting events which successfully contribute to the development of motor sports in the kingdom. He praised the organisational quality of the championship and wished the organisers and participants continued success in the second season.
BSBK founders Hussein Al Kooheji and Abdulrahman Almoayed expressed their gratitude for BIC’s support to the event.
The BSBK schedule for the new season, which includes six rounds, is set to commence with an official test day on October 7. The race rounds will then begin on October 21, with the second and third rounds scheduled to follow on November 25 and January 13, next year, respectively. Rounds 4 and 5 will be held on February 11 and March 3, with the series closing in round 6 on April 21.
The organising committee revealed that the season would also showcase a newly designed motorcycle emblazoned with the colours of the Bahrain flag.
The championship’s previous season witnessed both regional and international participation, with professional rider Qatari Mashel Al Naimi, from the Ooredo Racing team, taking the championship title with a score of 300 points while team mate Fahd AlSuwaidi came in as runner-up with a tally of 188 points.
The organising committee has made its mark in attracting world-class champions to the series, starting off its first season in the presence of Spanish world superbike champion Carlos Checa, in addition to Italian head of Ducating Riding Experience (DRE) Dario Marchetti. Both celebrity riders were invited to view and work with the series participants in order to improve their riding skills and to gain insight on their expertise.
