NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- More than 25,000 fans have signed a petition to rename a Broadway theater for musical theater actor Nick Cordero, who died on Sunday after a three-month battle with COVID-19.
The MoveOn petition asks the Shubert Organization, which owns the Longacre Theatre on West 48th Street, to change the venue’s name to “The Nick Cordero Theater.”
“‘A Bronx Tale: The Musical’ was the last Broadway show Nick Cordero starred in. This musical set a record as the longest running musical in Longacre history,” the petition says.
“With the passing of this incredibly talented and beloved Broadway star, it is the perfect memory for him and his family legacy, to assure his name will always be in lights in the Broadway Community,” it adds.
As of Wednesday morning, 28,032 people had signed the petition.
Cordero, who also starred in “Waitress” and “Bullets Over Broadway,” was hospitalized for complications related to COVID-19 on March 30.
The Tony Award-nominated actor, who was 41 years old when he died, experienced a slew of health setbacks. He also had his right leg amputated in April.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Kloots, and their 1-year-old son Elvis.
