CHANDIGARH: In a major political development, former Hisar MP,
Dushyant Chautala led
Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) and
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Sunday announced to contest the upcoming
assembly polls in alliance.
The assembly elections are slated in October this year. As per the alliance, which was jointly announced by Dushyant Chautala and senior BSP leader
Satish Mishra in Delhi, JJP would contest on 50 seats and BSP on 40 seats in the 90-member state assembly.
Both the leaders said that the alliance is meant for "change" in the state as the people of the state are fed with the Congress as well as ruling BJP and want a new leadership.
The move is also seen as master stroke by JJP at a time when there were talks about the absence of a strong opposition in Haryana to counter the "highly confident" ruling BJP led by Manohar Lal Khattar. The move has also come just a week before when the former Haryana CM, Bhupinder Singh Hooda is expected to make a major announcement.
Talking after the announcement of alliance, Dushyant Chautala said that it is an alliance of "Dalit, Pichda Varg and Kisan", and from today, "the political scenario of Haryana’s politics is going to witness a drastic change."
JJP general secretary,
KC Banger and senior BSP leader and Haryana affairs in charge, Meghraj Singh were also present on this occasion.
