Iowa City Extended Closures For City Hall, Recreation Centers, And Other City Facilities

The closure of City facilities to the public, including City Hall and recreation centers, has been extended through Thursday, April 30, 2020, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

On Thursday, April 2, 2020, the Governor extended the closures of schools, businesses, venues such as movie theaters and concert venues, dine-in restaurants, and extended the ban on gatherings of 10 or more people, through April 30.

In accordance with the Governor's extension, and following Iowa Department of Public Health mitigation guidelines, the City has extended the following facilities closures that began in March:

• City Hall
• Iowa City Public Library
• Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center
• Landfill and Recycling Center
• The Education Center at the East Side Recycling Center
• Animal Care and Adoption Center
• Parks and Recreation facilities:
• Robert A. Lee Recreation Center
  • Mercer Park Aquatic Center/Scanlon Gym
  • Terry Trueblood Lodge
  • Ned Ashton House
  • Playground equipment at all City parks

The City remains focused on ensuring the continuity of critical operations: the police and fire departments, providing clean water, sewer services, trash and recycling collection, and transit.

All changes in operating schedules, cancellations, or other alterations to City operations and facilities will be communicated as circumstances arise. Community members can receive updates related to City facilities, operations, and events may choose to subscribe at www.icgov.org/subscribe.
