Coronavirus In Ohio: Hospitalizations, ICU Admissions Up

COLUMBUS, OH β€” In the past 24 hours, at least 42 Ohioans entered intensive care because of the new coronavirus. More than 120 Ohioans were also hospitalized because of the virus, the state health department announced Wednesday.

In the past three weeks, Ohio had averaged 78 new COVID-19-related hospitalizations daily, and 16 COVID-19 ICU admissions daily. Both of those numbers spiked on Wednesday.

However, the number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ohio was done versus its three-week average. Health officials confirmed 433 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The three-week average for daily new COVID-19 cases in Ohio was 565.

Ohio's daily COVID-19-related deaths remained largely steady versus the three-week average. On Wednesday, at least 42 Ohioans died from the virus, and the three-week average for deaths was 39.

Dr. Amy Acton, director of the Ohio Department of Health, said there could be a spike in confirmed cases coming this week as laboratories work through backlogged tests submitted during the holiday weekend.
