Makeup Artists Reveal The One Hack That Will Change Your Beauty Game

Watching pro makeup artists work is like watching magic - the sheer dexterity with which they apply foundation, ace that eyeliner and swipe on lipstick is mesmerising. Along the way, they’ve learnt a few hacks which enables this sorcery and we want to know just exactly what they are. We asked five of India’s leading makeup artists to spill the beans. Here’s what they had to say.

If you happen to use a concealer that is a couple shades too light on your under eyes, simply run over what's left on any blusher brush. The pink from the blusher will automatically correct the lightness of the concealer by adding just enough warmth of tone. Another one is, using a lash curler really close to the lash line and pressing down hard multiple times, before going over it with mascara to hold that curl in place. This allows for super alert and engaging eyes - a primal stare! Elton Fernandez, Official Makeup Artist, Maybelline New York.

Invest in a good concealer and use it under your eyes and on the T- zone of your face. Follow with a compact. This instantly makes your skin look fresh, radiant and flawless while using minimum product. MAC Pro Longwear Concealer and Studio Finish Conceal and Correct Palette are two of my favourite concealers. Navreet Josan – National Artist MAC India

A sunscreen is a very good substitute for strobe cream. Sunscreens have SPF which give a glow under the base, when used on the skin. After you finish your foundation, dab sunscreen gently on the zones to strobe (using fingers or a makeup sponge), keep in mind to blend it well so there are no streaks, and everything looks natural and beautiful. The higher the SPF the better! Anupma Katyal, National Creative Director – Makeup, Lakmé Salon

Always carry a red lipstick with you. Because it can be used in multiple places and easily transforms your face in a matter of seconds. Shaan Muttathil, Celebrity Makeup Artist

For every woman out there who’s always on the move, multi-purpose makeup products are a boon. If you need to go to a party directly after work or are running late for a social gathering, all you need to doll up in transit is a lipstick shade to add a pop of color to your eyes, lips and cheeks. A pigmented blush can also be used as a quick eye shadow or a highlighter can be used for both the cheek bones and inner corner of the eyes for sharp definition and subtle glow. Every woman should have such multi-purpose cosmetics in her beauty kit to be on top of her beauty game. Stafford Braganza, National Makeup Artist, NYX Professional Makeup
