Pennsylvania adds 988 new covid-19 cases, continuing recent trend

Pennsylvania has 988 new covid-19 cases Tuesday, according to the state Department of Health.

There were also 16 new coronavirus-related deaths reported.

Total cases are now 157,814 and total deaths are now 8,123.

Of the 16 deaths reported Tuesday, 13 are from September, one from August, one from July and one from May.

In the state, there are currently 507 covid-19 patients hospitalized, with 63 on ventilators.

Allegheny County reported 71 new cases and Westmoreland County reported 13 new cases Tuesday. Heading eastward in the state, Centre County added 116 cases, bringing its total to 2,667, and Philadelphia County reported 98 cases, bringing its total to 31,734.

Over the last week, new cases have consistently been 800 or more, with six of the past seven days meeting that criteria. Cases have been 900 or more on three of the last four days, as well.

Coronavirus-related deaths have been up and down over the past seven days, as there have been three days with three or less deaths. Conversely, there have been 16 or more deaths reported four times in that span, with the seven-day high reaching 39 on Sept. 23.
