Missing 77-year-old woman found dead in Apache Junction

A 77-year-old woman with dementia who was reported missing after wandering from her Apache Junction home was found dead Sunday afternoon, police officials said Monday.

Apache Junction police say a woman's body was found about 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the 900 block of East Junction Street, near Royal Palm Road, in Apache Junction, according to a police news release. The body was determined to be Cheryl Beeter.

Beeter was reported missing about 11 a.m. Saturday after she wandered from her home in the 900 block of east 4th Avenue. Her body was found less than a half-mile away.

Officers from Apache Junction Police Department searched the area, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety activated a Silver Alert.

Detectives believe Beeter's death was not heat-related, the release stated.
