MEDWAY - Construction is complete for the new Willows Premier Retirement Community for Active Adults and the Whitney Place Assisted Living and Memory Care facility on Village Street.

Community leaders gathered Wednesday at 261 Village St. to celebrate the structural completion of Westborough-based Salmon Health and Retirement’s two newest communities, an occasion marked by the signing of the last structural beam on site.

Construction began in January 2019, and the facilities are expected to open in May 2021.

The 57-acre campus will be home to The Willows, offering 15 attached rental cottages with interior parking and 56 apartment homes in a common building.

In addition, Whitney Place will offer 60 “traditional” assisted living apartments and 40 memory care assisted living apartments. There will also be 56 freestanding cottages with attached garages, a pavilion for campus residents and a medical office building open to Medway residents.

The community will feature chef-prepared meals in multiple dining venues and on-site amenities including a bank, spa, salon/barber shop, fitness center, indoor pool, general store, library, billiards lounge, workshop, creative arts studio, greenhouse, a pavilion clubhouse and a great room equipped with a stage and bar.

Attendees Wednesday included state Rep. Jeff Roy, D-Franklin; Medway Town Manager Michael Boynton; and Selectmen Dennis Crowley, Glenn Trindade, Maryjane White and John Foresto.

About 150 jobs will be created upon the facilities' opening, said Salmon CEO Matt Salmon.

“The Medway project is exciting but bittersweet, as we, along with every business and household, remain focused on fighting and eventually defeating COVID-19,” he said in a statement. “We’re all looking forward to a future and we know that older adults will find this a safe, healthy, convenient and highly desirable lifestyle option.”

Salmon Health and Retirement has served Central Massachusetts since 1952. It has locations in Westborough, Natick and Northborough. Salmon's Beaumont at Worcester community is also the nation's first COVID-19 recovery center for seniors.
