The Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra, conducted by Juan Felipe Molano, will present its season-opening concert 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, in Bridges Hall of Music in Claremont.

Guest soloist will be James Miller, associate principal trombone of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, performing the Trombone Concerto by Nico Rota.Also on the program are “Capriccio Italien” by Tchaikovsky and Symphony No. 9 by Dvorak.

Admission is free.

Miller, who has been with the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 1999, has also performed with the North Carolina Symphony, the Long Island Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic and the Dallas Symphony, according to a press release. He received his Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School, where he was a scholarship student of Per Brevig.

He has been a participant in the Mainly Mozart Festival, the Aspen Music Festival and the Ojai Music Festival and has performed with jazz, rock, ska and Latin ensembles.

The Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra is made up of musicians up to age 20 from around Southern California.

Members are selected by audition each year in September.

Among the more than 30 schools represented in the orchestra this season are Ayala High School, Chaparral Middle School, Chino Hills High School, Claremont High School, Loma Linda Academy, Los Osos High School, Redlands East Valley High School, Riverside STEM, Summit High School and Upland High School.

Bridges Hall of Music is at 150 E. Fourth St., Claremont. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
