Crash ties up I-78 East for 90 minutes just west of Lehigh County (UPDATE)

A crash Monday morning briefly shut Interstate 78 East just west of Lehigh County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reports.

It wasn’t immediately clear how many vehicles were involved or if anyone was hurt.

The wreck was reported at 7:03 a.m. in Greenwich Township, Berks County, between Exit 40 (Route 737, Kutztown/Krumsville) and Exit 45 (Route 863, Lynnport/New Smithville), PennDOT said. Emergency dispatches indicated it was near mile marker 41.

Just before 7:45 a.m., eastbound traffic appeared to be getting by in the right shoulder, according to a PennDOT camera.

The crash was cleared by 8:20 a.m., PennDOT said.
