Mum who thinks coronavirus is a hoax sent child to school when they should have been self-isolating

A mum who claims coronavirus is a hoax insisted on sending her child to school when they should have been self-isolating.

The parent, who has not been identified, kept flouting the rules believing the pandemic was a kind of conspiracy - said Neath Port Talbot Council leader Rob Jones.

The local authority chief cited the example a number of instances in the borough where coronavirus deniers are putting people's lives at risk.

He said the government guidelines are not "a Machiavellian plot of some sort" designed to restrict the freedom of individuals.

Desperate taxi drivers earning just £15 for an eight hour shift protest in Cardiff

Taxi drivers have poured into Cardiff pleading for help from the Welsh Government as they say they can no longer support their families.

Since the coronavirus pandemic took hold of the country in March, the taxi trade has plummeted, and now drivers have said travel restrictions and curfews are killing the industry.

While the country has now re-opened after a second fire-break lockdown in late October/early November, and with the festive period well underway, taxi drivers said trade in the capital was still nowhere near where it should be for this time of the year.

Rules that have been agreed by the four nations

These are the rules for Christmas agreed by the four nations:

  • Travel restrictions across the four administrations and between tiers will be lifted to provide a window for households to come together between the 23rd and 27th of December.
  • Up to three households can form an exclusive ‘bubble’ to meet at home during this period. When a bubble is formed it is fixed, and must not be changed or extended further at any point.

  • Each Christmas bubble can meet at home, at a place of worship or an outdoor public place, but existing, more restrictive rules on hospitality and meeting in other venues will be maintained throughout this period.

Read the joint statement and what Mark Drakeford had to say about the rules here.
