VALDOSTA, Ga (WTXL) — The Valdosta High School football team is undefeated on the year, is the top team in 6A football, and this Friday night they travel to Colquitt County for a date with the Packers, the fourth-best team in 7A.

It's also a big game because it's the first time Valdosta head football coach, Rush Propst will coach in Moultrie not wearing a Packers uniform.

Propst spent 12 years at Colquitt County, winning two State Championships.

He was named head coach of the Wildcats this spring and some may call this a homecoming for Propst.

"I don't want to make this too much about me going back because we're going to play them every year," said Propst. "It'll be a little bit emotional the first time, but I'll hold my emotions in check because the players have to go play the game. It ain't going to be about me, it's going to be about the players playing between the white lines. Rush Propst will go away one day. Rogers will go away over there one day. But Colquitt County and Valdosta ain't going away. It's going to continue to prosper, it's going to continue to go and these teams will be playing another 100 years if we're here 100 years."

Quarterback Jake Garcia was out last week with an undisclosed injury, but Propst confirmed with ABC 27 that Garcia's return on Friday is a game-time decision.

Propst said Garcia's injury is not season-ending.

Amari Jones suited up last week in Garcia's place, throwing for 182 yards and three touchdowns in the Cats win over Bainbridge.
