Texas deputies show up for the son of a fallen detective on his first day of kindergarten

Joziah Longoria's first day of kindergarten was a bitter-sweet occasion. Naturally, there was the usual excitement and trepidation felt by most kids on their first day at school, but for Joziah, this was an even more emotional experience.

Joziah grew up surrounded by law enforcement. His father, Corporal Detective Justin Longoria, served with the Frio County Sheriff’s Office in Texas. His uncle Josh is also a deputy with the department as well as many family friends.

Joziah loved the Sheriff’s Office. And even as a toddler, he would talk about one day following in his father’s footsteps as a policeman.

However, sadly, Joziah’s father will never get to see if that ambition comes to fruition. In April of this year, Justin was tragically killed in a road accident on his way to work, leaving his family devastated and the Sheriff’s Office mourning the loss of one of their brightest stars.

Amid their grief, Justin’s colleagues decided they wanted to do something special to honor the memory of their fallen friend. Their goal was to bring some comfort to his family and create a positive memory for his young son.

And so, on Joziah’s first day of kindergarten, sheriff’s deputies got together to provide an inspirational reminder to Joziah that he’s forever part of the police family.
