The Boulder County Coroner’s Office has identified the skier who died in a crash last week as David Marquez, 51, of Thornton.

The crash happened just before noon Thursday at Eldora Mountain Ski Resort, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses reported seeing Marquez fall and slide down the Corona Run at a high rate of speed, then strike a tree.

Because of the steep terrain and location of the accident, rescue crews had ski patrol transport Marquez to the medical personnel with AMR Ambulance and Nederland Fire Department at the bottom of the ski slope.

An airlift was requested, but the helicopter was unable to land due to high winds in the area that day.

Marquez was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office will conduct an investigation into the crash, while the coroner’s office will be responsible for declaring the official cause and manner of death.
