Gloria Riddle
Gloria Nell Smith Riddle, 84, of Hixson, died on Thursday, May 28, 2020, in the presence of loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Harold Riddle; parents, Vassie McCullough Smith and Hubert Smith; sister, Sally Eaton; brothers, Dan Smith and Mack Smith; nieces, Dana Smith Goodman and Myra Hawes; and nephew, David Eaton.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Sparks; grandson, Doug Sparks; and several much-loved nieces and nephews.
Gloria was born on Oct. 29, 1935, in Flintstone, Ga., and was a graduate of Chattanooga High School. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she valued her extended family as well as her many lasting friendships over the years. Gloria was a wonderful and nurturing homemaker who loved her family beyond measure, and she tirelessly worked to make her home a warm and special place. She was a caring, kind-hearted person who never met a stranger and selflessly gave her time to others.
Gloria was a member of Flintstone United Methodist Church for many years, and she considered it an honor and privilege when she and her husband were called upon to prepare communion for weekly Sunday services. In earlier years, she was an active and resourceful volunteer at her daughter's school, especially in the library and with fundraising paper drives, and she served several years as a Girl Scout leader. In more recent years, she helped frequently with various classroom activities for her daughter's students. Gloria enjoyed gardening and craft activities until her health declined, and she loved hosting get-togethers with friends and family. Most of all, she cherished her grandson, who was her pride and joy.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private service for family members will be held on Tuesday, June 2, at 12:30 p.m. Gloria will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery with her beloved husband, Harold.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn.
