TAMPA, Fla. | Goldie Ella Burns, 90, died unexpectedly on March 29, 2013 at Florida Hospital in Zephyrhills, Fla.
She was born July 8, 1922 on her parents' farm in the small town of Virgil, N.Y. Goldie lived in the Cortland area and moved to Weedsport in 1970, where she resided with her husband, Richard, until 2010. She moved to Tampa, to live with her youngest daughter, Marcella Baker Pritchard, until her death.
Goldie loved life, spending time with her family, extended family, assisting veterans and anyone in need. She loved sports, gardening, sewing, rides in the country, living on the Seneca River in New York, and talking to everyone.
She was predeceased in death by her husband, Richard E. Burns, who passed on Aug. 27, 2010; mother, Ethel Atkins Kniffen, of Homer; father, Arthur D. Kniffen, of Homer; brothers, Donnell J. Kniffen, of Cortland, Ray A. Kniffen, of Homer, and Arthur D. Kniffen Jr., of Zephyrhills; stepson, Donald Burns, of New Jersey; granddaughter, Nicole Pritchard, who passed in 1972.
Survivors include daughters, Jeanie Kniffen (Richard) Schubert, of Tiline, Ky. and Marcella Baker Prichard, of Zephyrhills; sons, Marcellus G. (Anita) Baker, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii and James A. (Maritza) Baker, of Zephyrhills; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne B. Kniffen, age 98, of Cortland and Ross (Evelyn) Kniffen, age 86, of Fort Pierce, Fla.; sisters, Pearl L. Kniffen (Morris) Stoker, age 88, of Cortland; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Linda) Finch, of Latham and Ronald (Karen) Finch, of Santa Rosa, Calif.
