(La Vergne and Smyrna) Did you realize that there are approximately 16 miles of lake frontage along Percy Priest Lake in Rutherford County? Area boaters are getting concerned, because they are discovering that the buoy markers may not be as accurate as needed.

Summer officially arrived Saturday (6/20/2020), and one pontoon boat reportedly beached while touching a buoy marker in this area. Those inside the craft were actually able to get out and walk around the one to two foot depths of water.

Another incident on Percy Priest Lake concerned a sports cruiser that was sinking. CLICK HERE for that WGNS' news story. That incident happened near the Fate Sanders Marina, where there are reports of buoys that have allegedly drifted to the wrong spots.

Channel markers warn boaters about the depth of the water, and it is an even greater problem when in a man-made lake like Percy Priest.

The Army Corps of Engineers has been notified of this problem. NewsRadio WGNS will keep you informed.
