GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids Community College is hosting a community COVID-19 vaccine clinic where booster shots will be available for those who are eligible.

The clinic is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center auditorium, 151 Fountain St., according to a GRCC news release.

Walk-ins are welcome at the clinic, which is open to all GRCC students and staff as well as Grand Rapids community members. The college will provide parking passes to those who receive the vaccine.

The Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson vaccines will all be available at the clinic.

The Pfizer booster vaccine will also be available for those who qualify, according to the release. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended booster shots for those over age 65 and any adults with certain medical conditions, jobs, or living situations.

Over 380,000 booster shots have been administered in Michigan as of Oct. 18, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The clinic is one of several efforts by GRCC to get students and staff vaccinated against COVID-19. In August, the college announced a $200 incentive to students who are fully vaccinated.

More than 4,200 students have qualified for the $200 campus credit thus far, college officials said. The deadline for students to be eligible for the incentive is Nov. 15.

The college also hosted a pop-up vaccination clinic in May, which was visited by first lady Jill Biden.

The college has limited on-campus class sizes to 75% capacity and replaced two-person desks with single-person desks in most classrooms to limit the spread of COVID-19 on campus, according to the release.

Hundreds of hand-sanitizing stations were placed around campus last year, and changes were made to campus cooling and ventilation to increase air flow, college officials said.
