MS woman killed in crash near Batesville

BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) - A woman was killed in a one-vehicle crash in Independence County Tuesday morning.

According to Arkansas State Police, the crash happened just after 8 a.m. on Arkansas Highway 25 at Fred Street near Batesville.

Cecilia Smith Welch, 77, of Osyka, MS was a passenger in a 2007 Dodge Caravan traveling north on Highway 25. The preliminary crash report stated the van left the road and struck a ditch embankment near Fred.

Welch was killed in the crash. No other injuries were reported.

Weather conditions were clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash, according to ASP.
