Methamphetamine found in motel water supply in Portales

Portales police are investigating the incident at a Super 8 motel on US 70 in Portales, NM. A motel customer reported a piece of methamphetamine shot out of the faucet and hit them in the eye. The water supply to the building has been shut off.

Portales police are investigating the incident at a Super 8 motel on US 70 in Portales, NM. A motel customer reported a piece of methamphetamine shot out of the faucet and hit them in the eye. The water supply to the building has been shut off.

The Portales Police Department is investigating an incident at a Super 8 motel on US 70 after a customer had, what was believed to be a piece of methamphetamine strike them in the eye after it came out of the faucet. According to a release from police, officers determined that it was methamphetamine. After further investigation, police found a larger amount of the substance inside the building's water system and was continuing to spread. Due to the cause of investigation and the substance, the City of Portales had cut the water supply off from the building to stop potential contamination to the entire city's water supply and protect those still inside the building. After the public works department tested the water supply in town, they determined the rest of the water supply in the city wasn't harmed or contaminated. New Mexico State Police were notified and are handling potential hazardous materials. The investigation is ongoing and police have not arrested any suspects yet.
