HS Roundup: Bishop Verot pick up another Private 8 win; Naples, Mariner and Cypress Lake pick up wins

This is a high school roundup of games played on Friday, Feb. 25.

Softball

Fort Myers 6, North Fort Myers 0: In a showdown of Southwest Florida's top 2 preseason ranked teams, Kylee Vagle's two-out, two-RBI triple in the top of the second inning sparked No. 1 Fort Myers to a decisive victory.

Haley Morales went 2 for 3 and drove in a pair as the Greenies move to 2-0 on the season. Julia Knowler threw a complete game shutout, scattering four hits while striking out seven.

"We performed during the key moments of this game", said Fort Myers coach Dan Mills. "Solid execution put runners in scoring position and Kylee and Haley came up with big-time hits. It was a great team win."

Naples 16, Palmetto Ridge 0: The Golden Eagles improved to 2-0 behind a dominant performance from Macy Miles. The UCF commit threw a shutout, striking out seven batters, and added a single, a double, and three RBI.

Mariner 14, Oasis 0: Cheyenne Waddell pitched the complete shut-out with seven strikeouts in the Tritons' win over the Sharks. Katie Campbell, Ava Buzard, and Crimson Lawrence each had multiple hits and RBI for Mariner.

Cape Coral 19, Dunbar 18

St. John Neumann 17, Mason Classical Academy 2

Baseball

Bishop Verot 8, St. John Neumann 2: The Vikings picked up their second straight Private 8 win in as many days as they took down the Celtics. Dylan Peck struck out nine batters while only allowing one hit. At bat, Maddix Simpson had four RBI, while Preston Heben added two hits.

Mariner 15, Oasis 2: Matthew Morales went 3 for 3 with three runs and an RBI. Mason Blackburn drove in three runs for Mariner.

Girls Lacrosse

Cypress Lake 9, Fort Myers 7: Dyani Leon led the Panthers with three goals and one assist as they downed the Green Wave. In net for Cypress Lake was Autumn Rhodes, who finished with eight saves.
