MESICK, MI -- A 22-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday afternoon in a vehicle crash about 8 miles west of Mesick.

The Manistee County Sheriff’s Office had no further update Wednesday, Aug. 14 on the woman’s condition.

Manistee County Sheriff John O’Hagan said the Mesick resident was attempting a right turn from Marilla Road onto 13 Mile Road when her vehicle was struck by an oncoming GMC Yukon on 13 Mile.

The Yukon had the right-of-way, O’Hagan said.

The 22-year-old driver was transported to a Traverse City hospital where she was listed in critical condition, O’Hagan said. Her 21-year-old Mesick woman passenger suffered minor injuries. Both were wearing their seat belts.

The occupants of the Yukon, a 40-year-old Cadillac woman, her 49-year-old husband and her 14-year-old child, all suffered minor injuries, O’Hagan said. They were not wearing seat belts.

The crash was reported just after 12 p.m. Sunday and resulted in a closure of 13 Mile Road for nearly eight hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
