Two students from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa recently traveled to South Florida as guests of the the American Technion Society.

The two students were Shir Tabac, a fourth-year Chemistry major and former Israel Defense Forces intelligence officer who trains seeing-eye dogs and plans to study electrochemistry in the future, and Yotam Amitai, a Master’s student in the Department of Autonomous Systems as well as a Robotics graduate student who is studying cognitive robotics and human-robot relations. They traveled to Aventura, Boca Raton, Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale as ambassadors for the Technion, Israel and the ATS. They spent five days meeting with supporters and sharing their Technion experiences, studies and lives.

The students’ South Florida visit included lunch with locals Rachel and Sam Oz at City Fish Market in Boca Raton. Tabac and Amitai are the third generation of Technion students the Oz’s have met.

“It was very exciting for me,” Sam Oz said about meeting the students. “I am very proud to be a graduate, and now a supporter of this super wonderful institution.”

The students also spoke at a Shabbat dinner during their local visit about what it means to attend the Technion at the home of Allen and Jewel Prince, who have supported the Undergraduate Student Village at the Technion, among other projects.

“We enjoy listening to the students’ enthusiasm about their research,” Jewel Prince noted. “They have an energetic spirit that is so uplifting and their work is so fascinating.”
