WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) Students across the country got some extra exercise Wednesday.
It is National Bike to School Day.
The goal is to empower communities to make walking and biking to school a safe and preferred choice for families.
More than 25-hundred schools across the nation took part in this annual event.
Local police officers are urging drivers to be careful as children bike and walk home.
” Not just texting and driving…Eating and driving.. it’s all some sort of distraction. It’s dangerous. Just keep a look out for them and anyone else on the road.” said Officer Drew Malvizzi, Wyoming Borough Police Department,

The first National Bike to School Day was celebrated in 2012 nationwide.
