Yahoo Finance IIT Delhi Professor Neetu Singh Wins Janaki Ammal-National Women Bioscientist Award
Prof Neetu Singh, an assistant professor at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has been awarded the Janaki Ammal-National Women Bioscientist Award 2020-21 under the ‘Young category’for her research contributions towards new imperatives in developing nano-based platform technologies for healthcare applications.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a citation, gold medal and a research grant of Rs 5 lakh per annum for a period of five years.
A faculty member at the Centre for Biomedical Engineering at IIT Delhi, Prof Singh was presented the award on the occasion of 35th Foundation Day of the Ministry of Science & Technology’s Department of Biotechnology (DBT) which supports research, its applications and education in life sciences and biotechnology. Union Minister for Science &Technology, Earth Sciences and Health & Family Welfare, Dr Harsh Vardhan presided over the award ceremony.
With a career spanning over a decade, Prof Singh has previously worked at the National Chemical Laboratory as a senior scientist. She joined IIT Delhi in 2014.
The Janaki Ammal-National Women Bioscientist Award is awarded under two categories - Senior and Young by the DBT to recognise the contribution of senior and young women scientists in the country who are working in biology and biotechnology areas.
The young category award is given to women scientists below 45 years of age who have contributed significantly towards unravelling challenges in various areas of biosciences and biotechnology. The senior category award — which recognises significant lifetime contributions of scientists in their research fields — carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh along with citation and a gold medal.
Other award winners include Dr Anindita Bhadra, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata in the young category and Dr Mitali Chatterjee, Professor, Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research, Kolkata in the senior category.
