18 year old dies after crashing into tree in Cass County

CASS COUNTY, MI – An 18-year-old Dowagiac man was killed when he lost control of his pickup and crashed into a tree on Thursday.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash on Dixon Street near Indian Lake Road around 5 p.m. on Oct. 21.

Deputies found Maynor Hernandez was traveling east on Dixon Street when he lost control of his 2004 Chevy truck, went off the road, overturned and struck a tree, police said.

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Hernandez was not wearing a seat belt, police said, adding it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The Pokagon Tribal Police Department, Sister Lakes Fire Department, Indian Lake Fire Department and Pride Care Ambulance assisted at the scene.
