The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 1,162 new positive coronavirus cases on Saturday, bringing the statewide total since the pandemic began to nearly 150,000.
So far, the virus has killed 7,956 in Pa., including 22 deaths announced Saturday.

There 267 people who have had a positive viral antigen test and are considered probable cases. Another 645 have had a positive serology test and either COVID-19 symptoms or a high-risk exposure.
Almost 176,000 coronavirus tests were administered between Sept. 12-18, the state reported, and 5,798 were positive.
About 1.75 million people have tested negative in the pandemic to date.
Today’s is the highest case count this week. The second highest was Tuesday, with 1,151 new coronavirus cases reported. This is the fourth time in September the state has reported more than 1,000 new cases in a day. The state didn’t top 1,000 cases in a day at all in August.
Schools and colleges have reopened in a mix of in-person, hybrid and online-only classes, depending on local restrictions, spread and reported cases in student populations.
The fall high school sports season also has begun, and Big Ten football play will resume in about a month.
Starting on Monday, restaurants that follow certain steps can increase indoor capacity to 50%. The governor, however, put a halt to sales of alcoholic drinks after 11 p.m. to reduce congregating at bars and restaurants, a measure designed to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
The coronavirus recovery rate in Pennsylvania is about 82%. Survivors are counted as recovered 30 days after their first positive test or onset of symptoms.
