Nobel C. Mahan, 88, of Waleska, Ga., died on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010 at the Cartersville Medical Center in Cartersville, Ga.
Nobel was born Oct. 30, 1922 in Cherokee County, Ga., a son of the late Sidney Clyde and Willie Mae Bolden Mahan; and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Wrethel Higdon Mahan; brothers, Jim Mahan and Sidney Thomas Mahan; and a sister, Helen Walker Nash.
He was a retired farmer and was a member of the Fairmount F & AM Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Myona Mahan and Rex and Brenda Mahan all of Ranger, Ga., Sidney Eugene Mahan, Joseph David Mahan and Matthew Mahan all of Waleska, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Shelia and Dean Holt of Turtle Town, Tn., Kathy Childers of Waleska, Ga. and Brenda and Doug McDaniel of Rydal, Ga.; sisters, Mary Jo Sinall of Atlanta and Virginia Bridges of Laurens, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Nobel C. Mahan will be held Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at the Hinton Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lowell Holt, Sidney Mahan, David Mahan, Scotty Childers, Bradley McDaniel and Josh Mahan.
The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 8 from 5-8 p.m. at the Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home.
