Hudson County Coronavirus Vaccine Sites: New Information

Here is the weekly update on where to get a covid-19 vaccine, and other new vaccine information in the area.

This story was updated at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — New Jersey has been steadily expanding the number of publicly listed COVID-19 vaccination sites. Besides registering for an appointment on the state's hub for any of the state's six megasites, people can try for an appointment at the listed county sites (see below).

In addition, residents can try to find an appointment at their own local pharmacy, hospital, or medical office. Some of those sites are listed below.

For instance, earlier this month, the CVS and Rite Aid pharmacy chains announced that some of their locations would have vaccines:

The city of Hoboken also has some locations, listed in the beginning of the story linked here.

[UPDATE: As of Sunday, the county of Hudson said their Kearny site will only make new appointments for seniors over 75 for the next few days; see story here.]

What's new this week

Some in New Jersey have been helped to find a vaccine appointment through social media groups, like New Jersey Covid Vaccine Info on Facebook, which has 67,000 members.

Earlier this week, Patch reported that young people in North Jersey have started volunteering to use their tech skills to get elderly residents a shot. READ MORE: Teen's New Group Finds Coronavirus Vaccines For Seniors

Meanwhile, the state is expected to get shipments soon of the new Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccines. Read more here.

As of this week, more than 500,000 Americans have died of the virus. (You can see which states had the highest death toll in the past week on this CDC map.)

While the death toll in New Jersey is declining again, deaths and hospitalizations have not decreased to the level of Sept. 7, when there were only two deaths reported statewide in 24 hours.

On Wednesday, the state reported 57 new confirmed deaths from the virus in 24 hours, and 2,070 people battling the virus in hospitals.

Here are the currently listed public vaccine sites in Hudson County. Many have their own websites to sign up. And as noted, your local pharmacies, medical offices, and other sites may have their own sites.

Most of these sites are currently only vaccinating people 18 and up, so double check before heading over. Keep checking to see when vaccines become available.

Other information

  • Messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines, including the Moderna vaccine, are a new type of vaccine that doesn't include the weakened virus, but teaches human cells to make a protein that triggers the immune response (read more about that here). The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is more traditional (see link above).
  • Gov. Phil Murphy reportedly said he'd like to start vaccinating the general public by Memorial Day.
