Florida's Sets New Record For Deadliest Day From Coronavirus
FL health officials reported 186 new coronavirus deaths Tuesday, topping the one-day record for the most deaths reported in a single day.
TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials reported 186 new coronavirus deaths Tuesday, topping the one-day record for the most deaths reported in a single day since the pandemic began. The previous record of 173 reported deaths was set last Thursday.
While the reported deaths in some cases have been spread over an extended period, new deaths are reported daily. Tuesday now marks the deadliest in terms of the number of new deaths reported by health officials in a single day following a string of record-setting days.
Health officials reported a total of 441,977 cases of virus in the state as of Tuesday. That is up from 432,747 a day earlier, an increase of 9,230 new cases over the previous 24 hours.

The death toll in Florida from the coronavirus surpassed the 6,000 mark as health officials reported a total of 6,117 deaths, up from 5,931 a day earlier. State health officials reported another 123 non-Florida residents who died in the state from the coronavirus.
Thirty-one of Florida's 67 counties reported 185 new deaths Tuesday, although health officials reported at least one additional death in Sarasota County, which Patch could not confirm.

The daily total compares with 78 new deaths Monday (state health officials reported 77), 77 new deaths Sunday, 124 new deaths Saturday, 135 new deaths Friday, 173 new deaths Thursday, 140 new deaths reported Wednesday (health officials reported 139) and 134 new deaths reported last Tuesday.
Miami-Dade County reported 21 new deaths. Palm Beach County reported 21 new deaths. Neighboring Broward County did not report any new deaths. Those three counties are considered the epicenter of Florida's outbreak.
Brevard County reported 20 new deaths. Pinellas County reported 17 new deaths. Polk County reported 16 new deaths. Lee County reported 13 new deaths. Hillsborough County reported 12 new deaths. Jackson County reported seven new deaths. St. Lucie County reported six new deaths. Orange County reported five new deaths, as did Suwannee County.
Bay County reported three new deaths, as did Duval County, Escambia County, Indian River County, Martin County, Santa Rosa County, Seminole County and Volusia County. Collier County reported two new deaths, as did Flagler County, Highlands County, Manatee County, Osceola County and Putnam County.
Hamilton County reported one new death, as did Hernando County, Lake County, Marion County, St. Johns County and Wakulla County.
Florida reported a 12.7 percent positive test rate for the virus Tuesday as the number of tests reached 3,485,141.
Health officials reported 24,917 hospitalizations, up from 24,332 hospitalizations over the previous 24 hours. That represents an increase of 585 more hospitalizations than reported a day earlier, which is among the highest one-day increases since the pandemic began.
Miami-Dade, which includes Miami and Miami Beach, reported 110,352 cases of the virus. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 51,657 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes Palm Beach, West Palm and Boca Raton, reported 31,598 cases.
Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 27,823 cases. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 27,820 cases.
