4 More Coronavirus Deaths In Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — In Orange County, news of beaches reopening to activity Tuesday was tempered by a report of four more deaths due to the coronavirus.

A total of 61 Orange County residents have died due to the virus, 11 of those were residents of nursing homes.

2,873 people have tested positive, with 251 of those being nursing home residents, and 143 of them inmates of Orange County Jails. There were 202 residents of Orange County currently hospitalized, and of those, 62 were in intensive care units.

Nearly 70 cases were confirmed on Tuesday, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency.

After six long weeks following the safer at home initiative, California prepares to relax the stay-at-home orders across the state.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Monday that the state will begin to lift restrictions in its stay-home order, by allowing some retailers and manufacturers to open for business as early as Friday. This includes clothing stores, bookstores, music and toy stores, sporting goods stores and florists — which will be able to open in time for Mother's Day on Sunday, Newsom pointed out. These businesses must be able to provide curbside pickup, to minimize person-to-person contact.

However, offices, shopping malls and dine-in restaurants will not be permitted to open this week.

Orange County's board of supervisors isworking on their roadmap to reopening businesses in keeping with Gov. Gavin Newsom's program to ensure a swift and organized reopening of the county. Supervisor Andrew Do released a draft of the action plan toward reopening businesses in compliance with the Resilience Roadmap established by the governor's office.

Once lifted, stay-home orders could be reimposed if virus cases spike again, Newsom said Monday.

On Tuesday, the Orange County Health Care Agency determined to separate out jail inmates from the city case counts, which "resulted in a reduction in the Orange and Santa Ana city case counts," they said.
